Description
Calcotts is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It is timber framed and plastered, with evidence of squared stucco on the west side, and features a 20th-century red tile hipped double pitch roof. The building has two storeys and cellars, with a square plan that includes 19th-century service rooms forming a wing. The front of the house is symmetrical, featuring two canted bays that are original to the construction. There are three window openings with late 19th-century vertical sliding sashes. The ground floor windows have early 19th-century blind boxes externally. The house has a parapet and a timber modillioned cornice. The central doorcase includes a late 18th-century six-panelled door, a lead fanlight, a moulded surround, and a flat moulded cornice. Red brick chimney stacks are located on the spine wall. The interior was stripped to the frame at the time of visiting, and there is a late 19th-century open well staircase at the rear.
