Description

The garden wall, dating from the 16th century, extends 48 meters north from the gatehouse and courtyard range at Ingatestone Hall. It is constructed of red brick in English bond and stands approximately 3 meters high. The wall runs in a north-south alignment and connects at its southern end to the northern wing of the entrance range. Historical records, including a plan from 1566 and a map by John Walkers in 1605, indicate that this wall has served as the western boundary of a garden, a function it continues to fulfill today.
