Description

The stable block, dating from 1859 and designed by William White, is located at Trueloves. Constructed primarily of polychrome brickwork – mainly red brick with black and gault detailing – it features a slate roof with decorative bands. The building is in a Gothic style. The layout comprises a two-storey 'gatehouse' and single-storey wings, enclosing a central courtyard covered by a clerestory roof. The front of the block is dominated by the central gatehouse, which has a gable featuring a clock face and two pointed arched windows on the first floor, above a four-centred carriage arch. Short linking roofs lead to front-facing gables above the single-storey blocks, with circular blind windows in the gables above two pointed arched windows. The stable block forms a group with Trueloves and the dairy/game larder.
