Description
A range of four attached cottages was built in the late 19th century, displaying a Tudor Revival style. The cottages are constructed of red brick in English bond, with areas of roughcast timber framing, and have roofs of handmade plain and ornamental red clay tiles. The main range faces northwest and features two axial stacks. Two wings project forward, each with a jetty. An open lean-to canopy is situated between the wings, with an altered, similar canopy to the left of the left wing. There are minor extensions to the rear. The cottages are one storey high with attics. The ground floor has four 19th-century casement windows, each with three lights; numbers 26 and 27 retain their original cast iron latticework. The first floor features two 19th-century splayed windows with four lights, and two 19th-century casements with hexagonal leading. There are four plain boarded doors. All casements have chamfered plaster surrounds. Each jetty displays reused early 16th-century carved fascia with a folded leaf design. The four gables have fretted bargeboards. The central canopy is supported by four moulded wooden posts, and has a fretted border of fleur-de-lis design. The left canopy (belonging to number 25) has a 20th-century side wall, no posts, and a similar border. On the central canopy, all tiles are ornamental, while the main roof features plain and ornamental tiles arranged in horizontal bands, with crested tiles along the ridge. The left return of number 25 has three single-light casements with hexagonal leading on the ground floor, and one similar light without on the first floor, all with plastered surrounds as on the front. The right return of number 28 has a gabled porch with fretted bargeboards. Reused moulded beams and joists, believed to be of the same date, are found inside.
