Description
The barn, located immediately northwest of The Red Lion Inn, dates from the 17th century. It is timber framed, weatherboarded, and has a slate roof. The structure consists of six bays aligned approximately northwest to southeast, with the original entrance doors located to the northeast in the third bay from the southeast end, and a midstrey opposite. There is a lean-to shelter made of rough posts and corrugated iron in the western angle, which is from the 20th century.
The barn features jowled posts, straight tiebeams, and five thin arched braces, while some braces have been replaced by hanging knees. One of the tiebeams is a re-used moulded piece. The roof has cranked tension braces above the girts, which are trenched to the inside of the studs, and inserted tension braces below the girts that are not trenched. The scarfs are face-halved and bladed. The roof has been rebuilt with a reduced pitch to accommodate the slate. This barn is part of a group that includes the parish church and The Red Lion Inn.
