Description
The Chase is a late 15th century or early 16th century hall house located approximately 50 yards back from Head Street. It has two storeys and is constructed with a timber frame and plastered exterior, topped with a red plain tile roof. The building features three bays of hall and a cross wing. At the north-east end, there is a late 16th century chimney stack, while the central stack from the 17th century has six octagonal shafts and appears to have been partially rebuilt in the 18th century. Much of the original frame is preserved internally, along with a late 16th century inserted floor, a 17th century door, and some early moulded plank panelling. The structure also includes an adjoining cottage from around 1600. The rear of the building has three gables, and the first floor features double hung sashes with glazing bars, as well as some horizontal sliding sashes. There is a central porch with a red plain tile roof.
