Description
Nos 57 and 59 on Head Street are a pair of buildings with origins dating back to the late 15th or early 16th century, featuring alterations such as a raised roof and an inserted floor to a 14th-century hall house, of which remnants still exist. The roof was rebuilt and a chimney stack was added in the 17th century. The interior retains much of the exposed frame. The exterior appearance is primarily from the 20th century, showcasing a three-window range of modern hardwood casements with leaded lights, cement render with applied imitation studwork, and a modern timber porch with a tiled roof. The buildings have a red plain tile roof with three gabled dormers that include bargeboards, finials, leaded lights, and pargetting depicting acorns and oak leaves. No 59 features an 18th-century exterior with some original plasterwork and a moulded door surround topped with a simple pediment head, along with double hung sash windows that have glazing bars.
