Description
The road bridge over the River Blackwater, built around 1839, is constructed of red brick in English bond and spans the river with a single segmental arch. It is oriented northwest to southeast and features one cylindrical hole through each haunch. On the southwest side, there is a concrete kerb that supports seven concrete posts and three tubular rails. The northeast side has a red brick parapet, which has been repaired with 20th-century machine-made bricks at the southeast end and rebuilt with similar bricks on a splayed concrete base at the northwest end, along with a concrete kerb inside the parapet. The bridge is reinforced with four iron ties that have cast iron roundels at each end. Each end of the bridge displays one arched course of blue bricks, which are partly obscured. The road surface is tarmacked. This bridge replaced a previous structure that was destroyed by floods around 1838.
