Description

Causeway Farmhouse is an early 17th century house, or possibly older, that was altered in the early 19th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The building has four bays aligned northwest to southeast, with a southwest aspect and an axial chimney stack located near the middle. At the northwest end, there is a crosswing consisting of three bays, along with a single-storey lean-to extension featuring a slate roof in the eastern angle.

The farmhouse has a six-panel door with the top panels glazed and five double-hung sash windows, each with 16 lights. On the first floor, there are four similar windows and one single-hung sash window with 12 lights. The windows to the southeast of the door date from the early 19th century, as does the window on the first floor of the crosswing; the remaining windows are 20th-century reproductions. Some of the glass is crown glass. The base of the chimney stack features a dentilled cornice, and there are two octagonal shafts with moulded bases. The ridge tiles are serrated.

On the rear elevation, there is one early 18th-century window with a wrought iron casement and a fixed light, both featuring rectangular leaded glazing, located in a gabled dormer behind the chimney stack, likely associated with an original stair. Additionally, there is one 19th-century cast iron window with three lights at the end of the crosswing.
