Description
This building is a cottage, originally constructed as two cottages, and is dated 1622, as indicated by an incised plaster plaque above the entrance. It has undergone 19th-century alterations. The structure is timber-framed with roughcast and plain plaster, featuring painted brick and corrugated iron repairs. The roof is half hipped and covered with corrugated iron over thatch. The cottage has one storey and an attic, with an original three-unit plan that was later divided into two separate cottages.
The exterior includes two four-panelled doors, one wide hung sash window with small panes on the left side of the ground floor, two horizontal sliding sash windows, and one small fixed light. There are three gabled dormer windows, two of which have horizontal sliding sashes, while one has a casement window. A rebuilt red brick ridge stack is also present.
Inside, there is a relined open hearth, an early 19th-century corner cupboard, a staircase door, and boarded doors. The roof timbers are of light scantling suitable for thatch. Historically, the cottage functioned as a tailor's shop and a Post Office.
