Description
This is a lamp standard commemorating Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, made of cast iron with a brass lantern frame. The lamp standard is elaborately designed and rests on a modern shallow cast-iron octagonal base. It features a circular plinth with a moulded lower section that bears the inscription ‘F. T. RUSTON ST IVES’. Above this is a narrower, fluted central section, and a wider upper section adorned with two bands that display a shell motif and foliation. Both the lower and upper sections of the plinth are decorated with a Tudor rose.
The lower part of the post is entwined with stylised ivy and then expands into a baluster shape, which is decorated with an arcade and acanthus leaves before leading up to the tri-arm. This tri-arm has the inscription ‘VR’ at its base and supports three modern Victorian-style lamps that are tapering cylindrical in shape. These lamps are edged with brattishing in the form of oak leaves and topped with crowns, with the central lamp featuring a larger crown. Some of the detailing on the lamp standard is highlighted in orange and gold paint.
