Description

No. 12 North Brink is an early 18th century house that underwent alterations in the early 19th century, featuring a symmetrical facade and additions to the rear that connect internally to warehouses to the east. The building is constructed from local brown brick, which has been reddened, with red brick dressings. It has a half-hipped Collyweston slate roof on the east side and stacks on the west. The house is three storeys tall with a service basement and vaults beneath the street.

The facade has five bays, originally with a central entrance that was moved to the west in the 19th century. It features a panelled parapet with stone copings. The second floor has five recessed hung sash windows with twelve panes each, which are set beneath cambered gauged brick arches, with aprons, stone cills, and painted reveals. The first floor has five full-length casement windows and a stone balcony with patterned cast iron railings, added after 1820. The ground floor has four larger windows similar to those on the second floor.

The 19th century entrance is approached by four stone steps with a low wall, featuring a plain limestone Doric doorcase, an eight-panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight. There are railings and a gate leading to the basement forecourt. Inside, there is one well-preserved complete 18th century panelled room with original doors, along with 18th century panelled shutters and doors leading to the basement and upper floors. Other interior details are from the 19th century, including the staircase.
