Description
Porter's Lodge is a lodge built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of flint with gault brick dressings and has slate roofs. The building is one storey high and features a symmetrical facade with a pediment that faces the carriageway. There are three wide recessed panels with elliptical arches, two casement windows with small panes, and a filleted boarded door. Shaped walls on either side conceal lean-tos. An oval window and a plaque are located in the pediment. The lodge and gate are positioned to face the road from Newmarket and are likely part of Humphrey Repton's design for landscaping the park in the late 18th century.
