Description

The William Stone Building at Peterhouse College is a residential building constructed between 1963 and 1964, designed by Sir Leslie Martin and Colin St John Wilson. It is made of buff brick with copper cladding and features a flat roof. The building has an irregular plan with staggered rooms that face west and stands eight storeys tall. It is characterized by horizontal strip windows with bull-nosed cills and varnished timber frames. Above the top storey window, there is copper sheet cladding. The eastern elevation includes a prominent rectangular staircase and lift tower that rises above the roof line, along with narrow horizontal strip windows. This building is noted for its contribution to Cambridge's modern architectural landscape.
