Description
This is a house and shop, dating from approximately the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries, and an extension added in the 19th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, with a slate roof and a brick gable end stack, featuring set-offs and a later brick shaft. The original layout comprised two rooms; the north room was heated by the gable end stack, whereas the south room was unheated. A rear outshut, originally separate, is now incorporated into a 19th-century extension behind the south room. The west front has two windows on each floor. The upper floor has 20th-century casement windows; the ground floor has two small 20th-century shop windows. The rear features a short section of outshut in an angle with 19th-century rear wings, with no windows present. Internally, plaster and joinery have been removed, revealing the original timber framing. The north room contains a chamfered axial beam with hollow step stops, and a 19th-century brick fireplace. The south room has an unchamfered axial beam and joists. Although the eaves were raised and the roof replaced in the 18th century, an original tie-beam and collar truss remains in the north gable end, showing evidence of trenching for clasped purlins.
