Description

Besford Court is an early 16th-century timber-frame and plaster building with stone foundations. It is a regular two-storey block featuring a central, moulded wooden arched gateway containing an original studded door. Above the entrance is a projecting gabled bay supported by soffit timbers and curved brackets. This bay has a moulded wooden mullioned and transomed eight-light window above a plaster cove, and the gable-head is decorated with enriched barge boards. The main block has four moulded wooden windows; the upper ones are mullioned with three transoms and pediments, all dating from the 17th century. The upper storey of the sides projects outwards. Substantial stone wings were added in 1912, designed in a good "Tudor" style. Besford Court, together with all other listed buildings in the vicinity, form a group.
