House, now shop. Late C18 and later additions and alterations including c1836-99 ground-floor shop front and C20 attic dormer. Pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond with gauged red brick arches and plain tile roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attic, 2 first-floor windows. First floor and second floors have 8/8 flush sashes, all with flat arches of gauged brick. 3-course second-floor band; renewed modillion aves band. Attic dormer has casement window. Ground floor: outer panelled pilasters, glazed shop windows on panelled plinths canted in to off-centre right door with part-glazed overlight, panelled fascia and cornice, blind box. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: an earlier house on this site was rebuilt late C18. Mealcheapen street flourished particularly in the C16 and early C17, predominantly as a retail outlet; Hughes: 'it was the proximity to the Cornmarket that gave the street much of its prosperity and led to the establishment of a number of large inns.' The listed buildings in Mealcheapen Street form a group with the listed buildings in Cornmarket and the Church of St Swithun, Church Street (qqv).
