Description
No. 12 Broad Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from around 1750 with later additions and alterations, including a shop front added in the 1980s. The building is constructed of painted brick, featuring stone keystones and sills, and has a tiled roof with a pinkish-brown stack at the left end that has an oversailing course. It stands three storeys tall with an attic and has two windows on the first floor. A fluted pilaster runs from the first floor to the full height at the left end. The windows are 6/6 sashes set in near-flush frames, all with flat arches, fluted keystones, and sills. The attic features a flat-roofed dormer with casement windows, while the ground floor is occupied by a glazed shop front.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, by the 16th century, Broad Street was the second most important commercial street after High Street. It was a key route through the city from Worcester Bridge and hosted several significant traders and at least two inns. Some houses on Broad Street are known to have origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier, including Nos. 32, 40, 41, and 57.
