Description
The Clock Tower, built in 1895, is a notable structure in Wolverhampton, possibly designed by Dan Gibson. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a rock-faced plinth. The plinth is battered and includes a round-headed entrance on the south-west side. Each face of the tower is adorned with pilasters that have fluting at the top and a cornice, with high round-headed openings. The square top stage has fluted pilasters and pediments above round openings for clock faces, although only one clock face remains in place. The tower is topped with a short spire and a weathervane. A polished granite plaque on the north-east side commemorates its erection as a memorial to J. Lysaght by the employees of Swan Garden and Osier Bed Ironworks. The surrounding park was designed by T.H. Mawson, with contributions from Dan Gibson.
