Description

Knowle Hall is a country house dating from the 1820s. The original design included a third storey, but this was omitted and the house was completed around 1860. The exterior is stuccoed and features a modillion cornice and a balustrade concealing a low-pitched Welsh slated hipped roof. The front has two storeys, bonded chamfered quotas, and five sash windows with architraves. A central round arched doorway is set within a rusticated and partly vermiculated surround, incorporating a balustrade and a similar surround to a first-floor window. A slightly recessed one-storey wing extends to the right, featuring a balustrade with urns on a flat roof, while a two-storey recessed staff wing is located on the left and has a plain parapet with angle urns. The entrance front is sheltered by a closed porch with a rusticated and vermiculated segmental arch and a balustraded parapet adorned with eagles at the corners. Inside, a fine, galleried entrance hall is present. Knowle Hall is part of a group that includes the Garden Steps and Sphinxes at Knowle Hall.
