Description

The Woodlands at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is a building dating from around 1840, which has been altered and added to over the years. It was given to the hospital by George Cadbury in 1909. The structure is finished in stucco and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall and features three bays that are separated by coupled pilasters. The pilasters on the left and right are particularly thin, while those on the first floor have small volutes.

On the ground floor, there is a central double door that leads into a small oval ante-room adjacent to the staircase hall, flanked by two windows. The first floor contains three square windows, all of which are sash windows set in eared moulded surrounds. The building is topped with an eaves cornice and a blocking course.

To the left of the main structure, there is a later circular painted brick structure with circular windows featuring leaded lights, a dentilled brick frieze, and a low conical roof. Another similar circular structure is located at the back of the house, near what was once the stable court, now laid out as a garden with a fountain at its center. The right-hand return of the building includes a modern addition and a door that may have been altered from a three-light window.
