Description

Ardenhill Farmhouse, now a house, likely dates from the late 16th century and was significantly altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of red brick with an old plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack to the left of centre, featuring four diagonally set brick flues. The building comprises a two-storey, two-bay central range flanked by two-storey flush cross-wings to the left and right. A plank door is located to the left of the centre. A 20th-century bay window is positioned in the centre, with a pitched tiled roof forming a porch to the door, and a 20th-century casement window. Four-light casement windows with segmental brick heads are present on the ground and first floors of the left and right wings. A flat brick band delineates the ground and first floors. An angled bay window on the first floor is centrally placed, rising from the roof of the 20th-century bay to the ground floor. The cross-gables on the left and right have fan-shaped recesses. The interior, which was not inspected, is said to contain chamfered ceiling beams with end stops and a Tudor-arched inglenook fireplace.
