Description

The Church of St Margaret is a Grade II listed church located on School Lane in Hunningham. It dates back to the 13th century, with a 16th-century nave roof and a north aisle added around 1871. The building is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features an old plain-tile roof.

The church has a two-bay chancel, a three-bay nave, and a west bell-turret. There is a 19th-century wooden porch on a stone plinth to the left of the nave's center, which includes a nine-flush-panel door leading to a Tudor-arched doorway. The nave is adorned with two-light stone mullion windows, which have 20th-century restored tracery, located to the left, left of center, and to the right. The chancel has a single-light casement window to the left and a Y-tracery window at the east end. The north aisle features a re-set 13th-century round-arched blocked doorway to the right of center and 19th-century fenestration consisting of lancets and paired lancets.

Externally, there is a central buttress at the west end of the nave with a lancet that supports a wooden bell-turret topped with a pyramidal wooden roof. A massive stepped buttress is located to the right of the west end of the nave.

Inside, the chancel has a two-bay Queen-post roof, while a 20th-century segmental chancel arch separates it from the nave. The nave features a three-bay Queen-strut roof supported by round columns. The interior also includes 19th-century pews and a pulpit, along with a 19th-century arcade leading to the north aisle, characterized by two-centre arches. The north aisle has a three-bay arch-braced collar truss roof.
