Description

Highbarn is a house built around 1912 by Reginald Longden for himself. It is constructed of brick with some half-timbering and has plain-tiled roofs, showcasing the Arts and Crafts Vernacular Revival style. The building is two storeys high and features a two-window range with a pair of advanced gables separated by a narrow entrance bay. The central entrance is set in a recessed porch located between the two gables, topped with a shallow cambered timber lintel.

The left-hand gable has a four-light mullioned window on the first floor and a tripartite mullioned window below it. The right-hand gable is half-timbered, with brick nogging on the lower storey and decorative timber panels, including cusped quatrefoils, above. A four-light mullioned window with decorative leading creates a continuous band at the first-floor level. The main roof slopes down to the right of this gable and wraps around the angle over the projecting porch. There are axial stacks, and the symmetrical rear elevation features paired half-timbered gables. The interior has not been inspected.
