Description

The entrance gate and flanking wall to the Condlyffe Almshouses were built around 1877. They are constructed from brick and stone, featuring ashlar dressings. The central arch is four-centred and has a hoodmould, set beneath a coped triangular gable that is topped with a cross finial. The date and the name of the founder, Elizabeth Condlyffe, are displayed on a shield. On either side of the gate, there is a low plinth wall that was formerly topped with cast-iron railings. This structure is included for its group value.
