Description

The Butter Cross is a stone structure located on the east side of High Street, dating back to 1280. It features a fluted headless shaft that stands on a square plinth, which is supported by an octagonal, four-stepped stylobate. A modern inscribed bronze plaque notes that the cross was erected in memory of Roger de Pyvilesdon, and it is also referred to as "Pulestone Cross." The cross is believed to have been damaged during the Civil War.
