Description
The Quatt War Memorial Cross is a churchyard memorial dating from around 1920, made of red sandstone. It features a cross with a tapered shaft, a plinth, and a stepped platform, located to the north of the Church of St Andrew in Quatt.
The cross has arms with square ends and chamfered angles, and its top has a brattished outline. The shaft is square in section and tapers as it rises. The plinth has a square base that transitions to an upper octagonal body through broaches. The north face of the plinth is inscribed with the words: ‘TO THE / GLORY / OF / GOD / A THANK OFFERING FOR / VICTORY & FOR THOSE / SPARED A MEMORIAL OF / THE PART TAKEN BY THE / EMPIRE IN THE GREAT WAR’. The upper angles on the north side bear the years ‘1914’ and ‘1918’, while the south side displays ‘1939’ and ‘1945’. The memorial does not record individual names of the fallen.
