Description
The churchyard gates and gate piers, located approximately 44 metres south of the Church of St. Michael, were built around 1861. They feature a pair of painted cast iron gates with a 2:1 proportion, dog rails, intersecting Perpendicular-style panelled tracery, and crested top rails. The gates are flanked by a pair of monolithic red sandstone square gate piers, which are dressed to resemble rock-faced blocks and topped with low pyramidal caps. Above the gates is a wrought iron overthrow adorned with scrolled decoration and a central lamp. These gates were donated by Sir Baldwin Leighton of Loton Park on the condition that the residents of Cardeston and Ford-in-Alberbury could be buried in the churchyard, although this agreement was revoked in 1876.
