Description
The Worfield War Memorial is a village memorial dating from around 1920. It features a glazed timber cabinet at the top, which houses oak memorial boards and includes a small crucifix at the gable. Below this is a limestone plinth. The memorial is located on the triangular village green in Worfield, near the gates to Davenport House.
On the south side, the memorial has a moulded surround around the glazed upper section. Above this is a miniature gable covered with shingle tiles, which contains the crucifix. A recessed panel above the glazed area is inscribed with ‘ROLL OF HONOUR’, flanked by shaped brackets that support the roof. The stone plinth has a moulded shelf with cavetto moulding along its edge. A brass plaque on the plinth reads ‘TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF THE / PARISH OF WORFIELD / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR / MD 1914-1918 HW’. The rear of the monument is plain.
