Description
The Markham memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 4 metres to the south-west of the tower of the Church of Saint Margaret in Moreton Say. It dates from 1778 and is made of grey sandstone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded plinth, square panels with roll-moulded reveals, and a moulded cornice leading to a hollow chamfered top. At the top, there is an ovoid finial adorned with flutes at both the top and bottom, along with swags. The large sandstone base shows evidence of a former railed enclosure. This memorial commemorates John James Markham, Baronet, who died on December 10th, 1778.
