Description
This barn, dating from the early 18th century, is located approximately 10 metres east of the Lower Farmhouse in Cardington. It is constructed with a timber frame set on a sandstone rubble plinth, featuring corrugated iron cladding and a sandstone rubble wall at the south gable end. The roof is also covered with corrugated iron. The barn consists of three framed bays that are aligned roughly north-south, with square panels in the framing. It has large pitching openings and small slatted windows on the west side. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted for having a collar and tie-beam end truss with queen struts, single purlins, and square-panelled cross-walls. This barn is part of a small 18th-century farmstead group that includes the farmhouse and possibly a former brewhouse, and it is included in the listing for its group value.
