Description
The Malthouse at Easthope Cottage Farm is a late 18th century or early 19th century building that incorporates one surviving bay of a 14th century timber-framed aisled hall and an adjoining 15th century four-bay solar range. The outer walls are made of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond, and the roof is covered with corrugated asbestos. At the rear of the solar cross-range, there is a malthouse kiln with flues. The crosswing range features a hoist door leading to a first-floor entrance doorway below and an attic window above. The side elevation has four windows on each floor, all set under segmental arches. There is a doorway leading to a short hall range with a small window above it. Inside, the hall bay has two truss frames with aisle posts and king posts, and the end truss is arch braced. The solar range contains a central closed truss and arch-braced collar trusses on both sides. Additionally, there are two tiers of cusped windbraces supporting the purlins, as well as cusped braces between the collar and principals of the forward truss.
