Description

Bitterley House is a late 18th-century brick house with brick-coped gables, dentil eaves, and a plain-tile roof. It features projecting brick gable-end stacks. The two-storey and attic house has a three-window facade. The windows are largely 20th-century casements, but the central doorway retains 18th-century character. The doorway has a chamfered frame and a six-panelled door with raised fielded panels and a plain double top light. The windows are set within segmental brick arches, with flat arches in the centre. Two projecting tiled dormers feature 20th-century casements. Brick storey bands run across the facade. A two-storey bay to the right has a three-light casement on the first floor and a renewed two-light casement on the ground floor. The right return side shows rubble brickwork on the ground floor, with a 20th-century casement. The left return side has a two-light casement on the first floor and an attic roundel. The rear of the house is largely obscured by a late 19th-century rear wing, a 20th-century lean-to, and a rear range of stone and weatherboarded outbuildings. The interior was not inspected.
