Description
The ruins of the Old Church of St Mary are located to the east of a 19th-century church and date back to the 11th century. Only the walls remain, which are in a ruinous state. Notable features include interesting herringbone masonry to the east of the early Norman south doorway, constructed from blocks of tufa with a flat lintel and a round relieving arch. The west tower, which has upper parts that have fallen, is likely from the 16th century. For further reference, see RCHM volume II, page 75, plates 13 and 111.
