Description
Lower Hall is a building from the 17th century that was largely rebuilt in the early 18th century. The south front, dating from the early 18th century, is made of red brick and features a steep tiled hipped roof with brick dentil eaves. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a window arrangement of 1:3:1. The central section projects and has a pediment containing a three-light lunette with a keyblock. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, segmental brick heads with keyblocks, and cills. There is a wide central doorway framed by a moulded architrave and topped with a large open pediment on shaped brackets, which includes a fanlight, panelled reveals, and a panelled door. The building also has two hipped dormers with moulded cornices.
On the north side, the brickwork continues with brick dentil eaves, two storeys, and three windows, with the centre breaking forward to feature a small gable. The sashes here also have glazing bars, with the central first-floor window having thick glazing bars. The central fielded-panel door includes a rectangular fanlight with ornate flowing tracery and a pedimented hood on shared brackets. There are brick chimney stacks present. Reset into the east wall are three carved stones, likely from the 15th century. Inside, there are fielded panel doors. The building was formerly known as Nether Hall and was once the residence of the Lay Vicars of Ledbury.
