Description
Brook House, located at 1560 Brampton Street, is a building that appears to have originally been two separate dwellings but is now combined into one. The northern part of the structure dates back to the 17th century, while the southern section was added or rebuilt in the 18th century. The building has two storeys and features dormer windows. It is finished in roughcast over stone, with rusticated quoins. The roof of the southern block is higher and hipped, adorned with modillions beneath the eaves. There are four sash windows and a rounded door hood supported by shaped brackets. An old brick chimney stack is located on the right side of the ridge. Inside, there is reportedly a staircase with straight strings, heavy turned balusters, and newels at the bottom with ball terminals, along with some original doorways. Brook House, along with Nos 1 and 3 and the Friends Meeting House, forms a group of buildings.
