Description
The Burley Gate Inn is a mid to late 17th century timber-frame cottage that features a roof heightened in the 18th century, covered with slate and having gabled ends. The building has been refronted in the 18th century with painted stone and stands two storeys tall with two windows. The first floor has two modern three-light casement windows with leaded panes, while the ground floor includes a large modern bay window and a porch.
The gable end displays exposed mid to late 17th century timber-framing arranged in a lattice pattern, with 18th century timber-framing above for the heightened roof. To the right of the main structure is a large late 19th century painted brick wing. On the left side, there is a single-storey section from the 18th or 19th century that retains some remains of 17th century timbering inside. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition.
Inside, the ground floor features exposed timbering, with the east room showcasing a stop-chamfered ceiling beam and the west room displaying exposed joists.
