Description

Dingwood Park Farmhouse is a small country house dating from the 1690s. It is built of red brick and features a hipped plain tiled roof, with panelled brick stacks supported on broad full-height angle projections. The house has two storeys and cellars, with five window openings that contain 8-pane sash windows. The central first-floor window is narrower than the others, all of which are set in flush frames. The cellar windows are two-light windows with chamfered mullions. There is a chamfered stone string above the ground floor and stone weathering at the plinth. The central entrance has a six-panel door beneath a fanlight, framed by a doorcase with an open pediment on brackets. Between the outer first-floor windows are two stone cartouches displaying arms. To the right, there is a setback kitchen wing with a hipped roof, featuring a single stone two-light cross window on each floor. The side and rear elevations also have stone two-light cross windows in chamfered mullions and surrounds, alongside some sash windows.

Inside, the farmhouse retains very fine plasterwork. The hall has a ceiling divided into two rectangular compartments with an egg and dart cornice. The dining room on the right features a bolection moulded stone fire surround and a curved brick fireback, with a ceiling divided into three rectangular panels by moulded beams, enriched with a wreath of fruit and flowers, floral sprays, and branches of oak and bay. The drawing room on the left, which formerly included the hallway, has a fireplace similar to that in the dining room and a ceiling of six plain coffered panels with an egg and dart moulded cornice. The study at the rear left has a ceiling with three panels, divided by moulded beams and enriched with a wreath of oak and a central oval panel of a rose surrounded by sprays. The first floor to the right has a ceiling of three panels and a fireplace matching that of the dining room. The staircase features a panelled dado, a moulded handrail, closed string, and bulbous turned balusters.
