Description
The Old Railway Station, now a house, dates from circa 1860 with later 19th-century additions. It is constructed of pale yellow brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring stone coped gables, large kneelers, and ball finials. The building has a T-plan layout. The front elevation is one and a half storeys with a three-bay design, with the two right-hand bays projecting and gabled. A single-storey two-bay range extends beyond these. A planked door with a segmental head is located at the left end, above which is a flat timber platform canopy. A canted bay window with stone mullions and a hipped slate roof is present, along with a three-light casement window. The single-storey range has a two-light casement and a single planked door with a segmental head. Two two-light casements are on the first floor. All casement windows incorporate chamfered ashlar mullions, ashlar surrounds, and glazing bars. The stacks are a mix of red and yellow brick, located on walls and ridges. This station represents group value as an interesting example of railway architecture.
