Description
The Ship Hotel is a hotel built around 1935 for Home Brewery. It features a steel frame and concrete construction, with a flat roof that has cantilevered eaves and a steel balustrade. The building is two storeys high. The main front showcases central double doors set in a fluted tile surround. To the right, there is a single-storey wing with six metal-framed cross casements and similar windows in the projecting corner bay window. On the left, there are three pairs of metal frame cross casements and similar windows in another projecting corner bay window. Above, a central projecting pavilion includes a two-light metal casement flanked by small metal corner casements, with three four-light metal casements to the left and a chamfered corner containing a narrow metal casement. The symmetrical west front has a blank centre with two upper metal casements flanked by single metal-framed cross casements. On either side, there are doorways each with a pair of inner glazed doors. Above these doorways, there are three three-light metal frame casements. The ornate iron rainwater heads and square downpipes are still present, as are most of the original awnings. The interior retains much of the original panelling and bar facilities.
