Description
Peacocks is a former rectory, now a house, built in 1850 and altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of yellow Farlesthorpe brick and terracotta, topped with a fishscale slate roof featuring bargeboards with pendant pinnacles. The building is two storeys plus attics and has a plinth with a three-bay front. The central bay is advanced and has a separate gable, creating an open porch supported by two ornate circular piers and half columns against the wall, which have moulded bases and latticed terracotta work. The door has a chamfered surround and a plain shield above it. There is decorative brick corbel detail at the base of the first-floor projection, and a central first-floor oriel window with a hipped roof. On the ground floor, there are single rectangular bay windows with hipped roofs flanking the porch, featuring moulded tops and three-light glazing bar casements with Tudor heads and Y tracery. On the first and second floors, there are two chamfered window openings on each side, three of which have 20th-century standard top-hung casements, while one retains an original Tudor two-light window. At the rear, there is a datestone with the year 1850 inscribed in raised letters.
