Description
Torr Top Cottages is a range of three houses built in the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The cottages are constructed from regularly coursed squared grit stone, featuring ashlar dressings, plain gables, and gable chimneys. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate and stone slate. The north elevation shows a stepped range that rises from east to west, with the lowest section facing the street and consisting of two storeys, while the middle range is also two storeys. The west end is three storeys high and was once connected to now-demolished buildings, forming a terrace.
The lower part of the east end has stacked three-light flush mullioned windows at the gable center and a doorway to the west with a plain stone surround. The lower window is blocked, and the upper window lacks window joinery. The central section features stacked windows on the east side, which were formerly sash framed, positioned below wedge lintels, along with a doorway to the west that has a semi-circular head and a key block. This doorway is plain. The upper section has stacked three-light flush mullioned windows and a remodelled or inserted doorway without a surround, but it does have a plain planked door. Currently, the range is unoccupied, and the interior of the lower part has been removed. The rear includes a three-light mullioned window (with two mullions missing) and two sash windows set in stone surrounds.
