Description
16 Manor Square is a notable building from the 17th century, representative of the best West Riding architectural style. It is constructed of square coursed stone and has a stone slate roof. The building stands two storeys high, with the lower storey being particularly lofty. The front features three gables, with the central gable showcasing a two-storey bay window that includes mullions and transoms. Each of the other gables has an entrance doorway topped with a late Tudor style lintel, and the original oak doors are still in place. The gables are adorned with coping, kneelers, and finials at the kneelers, valleys, and apexes. A moulded string course runs across the middle of the front, and all windows retain their mullions and hood moulds.
The exterior of the building remains largely unspoilt and original, while the interior has undergone significant alterations and is currently used as clubrooms and offices. A plaque on the building commemorates the birth of the famous furniture maker Thomas Chippendale in Otley. This building, known as Manor Club, is part of a group with Nos 12 and 14.
