Description
The North Eastern Gas Board Distribution and Conversion Offices, built in the mid-19th century, are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and feature a pitched slate roof. The building stands three storeys high and is adorned with a modillion eaves cornice and a blocking course. It has a continuous sill on the second floor and a continuous moulded impost band above the ground floor windows. The corners are accentuated with rusticated quoins.
The façade consists of five ranges of sash windows. The ground floor windows are round-arched and feature moulded voussoirs, keystones, and panelled aprons. The first-floor windows are segment-headed with moulded surrounds and keystones, while the second-floor windows have moulded surrounds. The central first-floor window is particularly notable, having a moulded surround, a pulvinated frieze, and a segmental pediment. The entrance door is complemented by a semi-circular fanlight, concave moulding, and a rusticated surround with two orders, the outer one being vermiculated.
