Description
Azo House, located at No 90 Birkby Lodge Road, is an early 20th-century building designed by architect Edgar Wood. It is part of a single composition that includes No 109 Crendon, with entrances accessible from two different roads. The structure is made of hammer-dressed stone and features a pitched slate roof. It has two storeys and an attic storey in the gable ends, with an irregular plan and gabled design. The eaves are overhanging, and there are tall plain stacks. The windows are flush mullioned and transomed, with square-section mullions.
The garden front showcases two 2-storey canted bays; the one at the west end has a flat top, while the east end bay rises above the eaves line and is parapetted. The door to No 90 has a flat top supported by console-shaped brackets and is adorned with ornamental cast iron braces featuring diamond-shaped lights with glazing bars and decorative cast iron hinges. The door to No 109 is located in a one-storey extension at the east end and has a flat hood, planked design, and two small oblong lights, along with characteristic Arts and Crafts cast iron hinges, a knocker, handle, and finger plate. The garden gate for No 109 features a semi-circular top with a double-shaped transom above it.
