Description
Prospect Mill is a mid-19th century building located on Prospect Road in Longwood. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a double-pitched slate roof with coped gables on cut kneelers. The mill has five storeys and a basement, with a total of 17 ranges of windows, including four in the end elevation.
To the west, there is an engine house extension that is two storeys tall with a basement, topped by an iron water tank. This extension has a continuous sill band and eight ranges of windows. At the rear of the mill, there is a tower that showcases triple round-arched windows with raised imposts and keystones, a bracketed eaves cornice, and a cast iron balustrade around the top. The tower is topped with a prominent timber bell-cote featuring a pyramidal slate roof, with one louvred and gabled dormer on each side and five tall cast iron finials.
