Description
Nos 5 to 8 Wade's End is a mid-18th century, two-storey house that has been altered in the early 19th century. The main block features five windows and has been refaced in the earlier 19th century. It is constructed of stone with end strip pilasters and a cornice with a modeled blocking. The roof is hipped and slated. There is a Greek Doric entrance portico. The wings are made of red brick with stone dressings and have stone roofs. Each wing has two windows at the ends, along with a small Venetian opening in the low-pitched gable. The inner faces of the wings and the links to the main block appear to have been altered. The east wing has a plain return, and the rear has been extended. The rear of the main block is made of stone and dates to the mid-19th century, featuring a corniced central doorway and a round-arched window above. Inside the main block, there is modest 18th and early 19th-century work, along with some interesting mid-18th-century plaster decoration in a top-lit lobby on the first floor.
