Description
No. 98 Micklegate is a house built around 1775, with alterations made around 1828 and further changes in the late 19th century. It is constructed of orange brick in Flemish bond and features a timber modillion cornice. The roof is slate and hipped, with scrolled corner brackets and a brick chimney stack.
The exterior has three storeys and a single-window front. The shopfront includes plain pilasters with moulded imposts and a cornice that has a blindbox. To the right, there is a glazed door with an overlight next to a three-light shop window. The original first-floor sill band is interrupted by a canted bay window that has a four-pane centre sash. On the second floor, there are two two-light casement windows with painted stone sills and flat arches made of gauged brick.
The interior has not been inspected, but it features a close string staircase with slender turned balusters and a moulded, ramped-up handrail.
