Description
No. 9 Coney Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It was built in the mid-18th century, with alterations and an extension added around 1840, and a 20th-century shopfront. The front part of the building is made of stuccoed brick and features a timber eaves cornice, topped with a double span slate roof and a brick chimney stack. The rear wing is constructed of orange-grey brick in English garden wall bond, with a hipped slate roof.
The exterior has three storeys and two windows on the front. It includes a plate glass shop window with a glass shop door to the right. The first and second floors have 12-pane sash windows with slender glazing bars, set within architraves that have painted stone sills. There is a heavy modillion cornice that returns at the left end. The rear of the building features a one-storey wing with one original 12-pane sash window beneath a segmental brick arch in the rear wall.
The interior has not been inspected, but records indicate that it includes a closed string staircase with turned balusters, a swept handrail, and square newels with attached half balusters.
