Description
This building is a coach house and granary located approximately 20 metres north of Abbot's Lodge. It dates from the 17th to 18th century, with possible medieval origins. The structure is made of brick and ashlar, primarily using re-used materials from Thornton Abbey, with some brick patching from the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a pantile roof and is two storeys high with three bays. The ashlar plinth and quoins are notable, with the right quoins incorporating a moulded corbel. On the left side, there are double carriage doors beneath a timber lintel, with a slit vent to the right. The first floor has two slit vents to the right (one of which is blocked), an ashlar sundial tablet, and an opening to the left that contains shelves and recessed doveholes. The eaves are stepped, and the gables are coped with brick. The right side of the building has a stable door and a hatch on the first floor, while the left return features a blocked first floor window.
